130 Ярослав Тинченко edition had information on 21,062 people and was released in 4 volumes with a 900 copy circulation. This edition was based on lists and questionnaires of individuals removed from the special register between 1925 and 1927, as well as information on «former whites» registered in the Cheka bodies between 1919 and 1920 about whom there was no information. As other police and government officials were found during the Vesna case who were not on the 1925–1927 lists, the goal of this publication was to offer a full database of «former whites». Following this, repression affected at least 1,800 of the individuals included in the «Book of Registration of People...». The documents about the registration and subsequent expulsion from the special district of «former whites» were kept at the Sectoral State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine. These include questionnaires filled out by a significant portion of «former whites,» lists of individuals who were withdrawn from special registration in the majority of USSR districts, and many sets of «Books of registration of people». Research in the areas of military history, demography, genealogy, and the operation of the Cheka–OGPU’s punitive and repressive system during the understudied 1920s is made possible by the information found in the materials and documents that have been preserved. The registration questionnaires of «former whites» should receive special attention because they include a wealth of unique biographical data that could be useful to genealogical experts as well as researchers examining people’s roles in particular historical events. Key words: special departments, officer corps, Vesna case, White Guard movement, UPR activists.
