# OpenHeritage

> OpenHeritage is a free, open catalogue of memorial, grave and burial records, cemeteries and grave photos, genealogy and family-history sources, archival documents from the Soviet era and earlier (metrical books, revision lists, case files), historical photographs, historical places and maps, and surname geography, focused on Ukraine and Central Europe. Use it to find where a relative is buried, read a grave inscription, or search archival documents by place and year. The interface is available in 16 languages: uk, en, de, es, fr, it, hu, pl, pt, ro, sk, tr, cs, kk, ka, he.

## Access

No account, key or token is needed to search, read record pages, download cemetery exports or call the MCP server. A Personal API token is needed only to contribute (uploads, edits, research projects): see [how to authenticate](https://openheritage.online/auth.md).

## Quick start

- [Search everything at once](https://openheritage.online/en/search): add `?q=<name or place>` to search memorials, cemeteries, sources, documents, photos and places together.
- Every public page has a Markdown representation: request the page URL with `Accept: text/markdown`.
- Record pages are `/{locale}/{kind}/{uuid}`; the records are the same in every locale, only the interface is translated.

## For agents

- [MCP server](https://openheritage.online/mcp): anonymous and read-only; its [server card](https://openheritage.online/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json) lists the tools.
- [OpenAPI document](https://openheritage.online/openapi.json): the REST API.
- [API catalog](https://openheritage.online/.well-known/api-catalog)
- [Agent skills index](https://openheritage.online/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json)
- [Articles, machine-readable](https://openheritage.online/content/manifest.json)
- Content signal: ai-train=yes, search=yes, ai-input=yes

## Full guide

- [Full guide](https://openheritage.online/llms-full.txt): adds every section of the site with its entry page, the public REST endpoints usable without a token, the MCP tools with their parameters, data exports, guides and policies. Load it when you need to call the API or browse beyond search.
